From the opening quarter, it was evident that both teams were eager to establish dominance. The Buffaloes set an aggressive pace with 18 points in the first quarter compared to 13 by SMU. As play progressed, SMU found their rhythm and put up a strong second-quarter performance scoring 23 points but still trailed as Colorado added another 26 to their tally.

SMU's offensive efforts were led by their field goal attempts which totaled 50 throughout the game, converting into 22 successful shots reflecting a solid field goal percentage of 44 percent. From beyond the arc, they managed to hit six out of sixteen attempts resulting in an impressive three-point percentage of approximately 38 percent.
