Mustangs' Charge Falls Short Against Owls at Tudor Fieldhouse

The Southern Methodist University Mustangs faced a challenging contest against the Rice Owls, culminating in a 60-69 defeat. The Mustangs entered the game with an aggressive stance, but despite their efforts, they could not secure a victory. The Owls managed to outscore them in what was undoubtedly a competitive matchup.

Rice Owls VS SMU Mustangs

The SMU Mustangs started strong with 15 points in the first quarter and continued to push through the second quarter adding another 19 points to their tally. However, they struggled to maintain this momentum into the second half of the game where they scored 16 and then 10 points in the third and fourth quarters respectively. Their offensive efforts resulted in a total of 60 points for the game.

SMU's performance was marked by notable statistics; they achieved an impressive 42 points in paint and capitalized on turnovers with an additional 13 points. Their fast break plays were also effective, contributing 11 points to their scoreline. On defense, SMU managed six steals and two blocks throughout the game.

Despite these efforts, shooting accuracy proved challenging for SMU as they made only two out of fifteen three-point attempts resulting in a mere thirteen percent success rate from beyond the arc. From closer range, however, they fared better with twenty-two successful shots out of forty-six two-point attempts giving them a forty-eight percent completion rate.

On individual performances for SMU, there was significant hustle on both ends of the court which is reflected by their thirty-three personal rebounds; twenty-three defensive and ten offensive rebounds contributed towards their total rebound count of thirty-six.

Conversely, The Rice Owls showcased strong teamwork with twenty-one assists leading to several scoring opportunities that helped them edge past SMU's defense. They maintained higher shooting efficiency across all fronts: fifty-one percent from two-point range (twenty-one out of forty-one), twenty-five percent from three-point territory (four out of sixteen), and sixty-eight percent at free throw line (fifteen out of twenty-two). This precision played a crucial role as it allowed them to accumulate sixty-nine total points by endgame.

The upcoming match will see The SMU Mustangs return home to Moody Coliseum where they will face off against Memphis Tigers on February 3rd at 2:00 PM local time. Fans can catch all action live as it unfolds right from Dallas – ensuring not one moment is missed from what promises to be another exciting encounter on court.
