Can SMU Mustangs Maintain Momentum After Dominant Paint Performance at Moody Coliseum?

The Southern Methodist University Mustangs secured a commanding victory over the Charlotte 49ers with a final score of 64-49. The Mustangs now stand with an improved record, while the 49ers face another setback in their season. The game was marked by the Mustangs' superior scoring in each quarter, starting strong and maintaining their lead throughout.

Charlotte 49ers VS SMU Mustangs

At Moody Coliseum, the home crowd witnessed a dominant display by the SMU Mustangs as they outperformed the Charlotte 49ers on both ends of the court. The home team's defense was particularly impressive, recording four blocks and six steals, which contributed to limiting their opponents to just 27 percent shooting from the field. Offensively, SMU excelled inside with a remarkable 50 percent two-point shooting accuracy that resulted in 34 points in paint.

The Mustangs' teamwork shone through as they tallied up sixteen assists over the course of play – showcasing their ability to share and move the ball effectively against Charlotte's defense. This cohesive play was further highlighted by an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.45 for SMU compared to only 0.75 for Charlotte.

Rebounding also played a crucial role in this matchup; SMU outrebounded Charlotte by six boards overall (42-36), including thirteen offensive rebounds which led to twelve second-chance points – capitalizing on opportunities to score after initial missed shots.

Despite being less effective from beyond the arc with only seven percent three-point shooting accuracy, making just one shot from distance, it did not hinder their overall performance due largely to their strength inside and aggressive play leading to twenty-two free throw attempts at seventy-seven percent completion rate.

On offense for Charlotte, despite struggling from two-point range at twenty-eight percent and overall field goal percentage remaining low throughout all quarters, they managed an eighty-two percent free throw percentage but could not overcome SMU's defensive pressure that forced thirteen turnovers.
