Lady Rebels Outmaneuver Cowgirls in a Close Encounter at Cox Pavilion
The UNLV Lady Rebels improved their record to an impressive 58-51 victory over the Wyoming Cowgirls. Both teams fought hard, with the Lady Rebels securing a win on their home court at Cox Pavilion. The game saw the score tied six times and lead changes on three occasions, indicating a closely contested match.
The Lady Rebels showcased their defensive skills by recording seven steals and capitalizing on turnovers, scoring 11 points off them. Their offensive efforts were equally notable as they made 24 field goals out of 61 attempts, resulting in a 39 percent shooting rate from the field. From beyond the arc, they managed to hit four out of 15 attempts, translating to a three-point shooting percentage of 27 percent.
UNLV's performance in rebounding was dominant; they gathered a total of 37 rebounds - with an impressive count of 11 offensive boards contributing to five second-chance points. Their free-throw accuracy was also commendable as they made six out of nine attempts, achieving a success rate of approximately two-thirds.
In contrast, the Cowgirls had difficulty finding their rhythm from long range; they only made two three-pointers from nineteen attempts which is just above ten percent accuracy. However, inside the paint was where Wyoming excelled with thirty-six points scored and an outstanding sixty-four percent success rate for two-point shots.
Despite these efforts by Wyoming's team members and their higher efficiency in two-point shots compared to UNLV's forty-four percent rate for similar shots, it wasn't enough to secure victory against the determined Lady Rebels who also boasted an assist-to-turnover ratio thrice that of Wyoming – demonstrating better ball control throughout the game.
