UTEP Miners and Fighting Illini Clash at Massimino Court in Women's Basketball Showdown
The UTEP Miners faced a challenging contest against the Fighting Illini, with the final scoreboard reading 81-71 in favor of the visitors. The Miners now stand with their record reflecting more losses than victories, while the Fighting Illini have added another win to their tally.
At Massimino Court, fans witnessed an intense matchup where both teams displayed significant offensive efforts. The UTEP Miners showcased a strong shooting performance from inside the arc, hitting 63 percent of their two-point attempts. They also dominated points in the paint with 44 to their credit. Despite this impressive display, turnovers proved costly for them as they gave up possession 16 times which translated into 21 points for the Fighting Illini.
The home team's free throw accuracy was notable at 68 percent but fell short compared to other aspects of their game. From beyond the arc, they struggled, converting only two out of ten attempts which amounted to a mere 20 percent success rate. On defense, they managed six steals and blocked two shots but were unable to contain Illinois' offense effectively.
On the other side of the court, Illinois' balanced attack was evident as they shot over half of their field goal attempts successfully at a rate of approximately 52 percent and were almost equally proficient from three-point range with roughly a 39 percent completion rate. Their free throw shooting was reliable too at around 72 percent accuracy.
Rebounding on both ends was relatively even with Illinois edging out slightly by securing two more rebounds than UTEP's total of twenty-five. Both teams distributed well among teammates each recording eighteen assists; however, Illinois maintained better control over ball possession reflected by an assist-to-turnover ratio higher than that of UTEP.
Looking ahead for fans eager to support their team once again on home turf: The next game for UTEP will be against Southern Utah Thunderbirds at Don Haskins Center in El Paso on December 30th at approximately four PM local time (Mountain Time).
