Commanders Outmaneuvered at FedExField: 49ers Secure Victory in Week 17 Showdown

The Washington Commanders, with a record of 4-12, faced off against the San Francisco 49ers who held a stronger season performance at 12-4. In this week's gridiron battle at FedExField, the Commanders were overpowered by the visiting team with a final score of 27-10.

The home team's effort was evident in their defensive plays. The Commanders' defense managed to sack the opposing quarterback once for a loss of six yards and recorded five tackles for loss, totaling fifteen negative yards against the 49ers. Despite these efforts, they could only force one fourth-down stop and three-and-outs once throughout the game. The defensive unit also contributed two passes defended but failed to secure any interceptions or forced fumbles.

On offense, Washington's passing game saw seventeen completions out of twenty-eight attempts resulting in one touchdown and two interceptions. The longest pass completed stretched for forty-two yards as part of their total passing yardage of one hundred sixty-nine yards. However, quarterback pressure was evident with five knockdowns and an average pocket time of three seconds before releasing the ball.

The running game added sixty-two rushing yards on fourteen attempts with an average gain per attempt standing at four yards. Although no touchdowns came from these efforts, they did achieve five first downs through rushes.

Special teams had moments to shine as well; punting averaged fifty-two yards across three attempts with one landing inside the twenty-yard line and netting one hundred thirty-nine total punt return yards for Washington. Field goal kicking remained precise with a successful forty-seven-yard attempt contributing to their ten-point tally.

In contrast, while not dominating every statistical category, San Francisco capitalized on key opportunities leading them to victory through efficient scoring drives and effective use of timeouts when needed.

Looking ahead after this tough encounter at home soil, Washington fans can mark their calendars for another intense matchup as the Commanders host division rivals Dallas Cowboys at FedExField on January 7th at 4:25 PM EST. This upcoming event will be broadcasted live on FOX where fans can tune in to witness all action unfold from Landover.
