The game at Mullett Arena was marked by an aggressive start from the Flames, who set the tone early by netting four goals in the first period. The Coyotes responded with one goal to show for their efforts before heading into intermission. In terms of shots on goal during this period, both teams were active, with Arizona taking 34 shots throughout the game and Calgary attempting 30.

Arizona's resilience was tested as they entered the second period trailing significantly. They managed to add another goal to their tally but could not capitalize further despite several attempts on target. The home team's goaltender ended up saving 24 out of 30 shots during playtime but couldn't stem Calgary's offensive tide which saw them scoring two more goals in third period action.

The Coyotes showcased determination and physicality with a total of 28 hits compared to Calgary's 19. However, this physicality also led them into penalty trouble; they incurred twice as many penalties as their opponents – eight penalty minutes over four infractions.

Special teams played a crucial role in this matchup; while Arizona had only one powerplay opportunity and failed to convert it into a goal, Calgary capitalized once out of three chances on their powerplay. Additionally, both teams scored once while shorthanded – an unusual statistic that highlighted each side’s aggressive play even when at a numerical disadvantage.

Despite being outscored and facing challenges throughout various phases of play – including faceoffs where they won just over forty percent compared to Calgary’s fifty-nine percent win rate – there were bright spots for Arizona fans. The team registered seven takeaways and blocked ten shots over three periods.

Looking ahead for fans of the Arizona Coyotes: Their next challenge will be away against Minnesota Wild at Xcel Energy Center in St Paul on January 14th at 7:00 PM local time (8:00 PM MST). This upcoming match can be viewed nationally on ESPN+ or locally via BSN channel number six hundred sixty-eight or BSWIX channel number six hundred sixty-nine-one for those following from afar.
