The Coyotes entered this matchup looking to improve their home ice performance but were met with resistance from an assertive Wild team. Despite putting up 25 shots on goal and delivering 28 hits throughout the game, they found themselves trailing as they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities early on. The home team's shooting percentage stood at eight percent by the end of regulation time.

Arizona's powerplay unit managed to convert one out of three opportunities into a goal while accumulating six shots during these advantages. However, their faceoff win percentage was less than ideal at forty-eight percent over all situations—powerplay, shorthanded and even strength combined—which may have contributed to their difficulties in establishing control over the game.

On defense, Arizona blocked fifteen shots and took five penalties for a total of thirty-four penalty minutes which included three misconducts. The goaltending for the Coyotes was busy; making twenty-three saves against twenty-six shots during even strength play but ultimately allowing five goals including two empty-netters which sealed their fate late in the third period.

Conversely, The Minnesota Wild demonstrated efficiency with an eighteen percent shooting percentage and capitalized on one out of two powerplay chances. They also edged out Arizona slightly in faceoffs won at fifty-two percent overall success rate. Defensively strong as well, they blocked twenty-four shots and only allowed two goals against them throughout sixty minutes.
