First Period

The opening period saw both teams testing each other's defenses with no goals scored. The Panthers managed to keep up with the Sabres' offensive pressure, thanks to solid goaltending from Sergei Bobrovsky who made crucial saves early on.

Second Period

In the second period, Sam Bennett broke through for the Cats with a powerplay goal assisted by Matthew Tkachuk. This gave Florida an initial lead and energized their play. However, despite outshooting their opponents during this period, they couldn't extend their advantage further.

Third Period

As tensions rose in the third period, Buffalo's Beck Malenstyn equalized for his team before Alex Lyon's stellar performance between the pipes kept them competitive. With time winding down and both teams pushing hard for victory, it was ultimately Buffalo that capitalized on an opportunity late in regulation to seal their win.

Despite strong efforts from players like Carter Verhaeghe and Aaron Ekblad contributing defensively throughout all periods – including Ekblad’s impressive four hits – it wasn't enough as Florida fell short against determined opposition.
