Florida Atlantic Owls' Miami Misstep: Panthers Pounce at Pitbull Stadium

The Florida Atlantic Owls faced off against the Florida International Panthers at Pitbull Stadium in Miami, resulting in a 38-28 victory for the home team. The Owls now hold a record of 1-2, while the Panthers improved to 2-1. Despite a strong effort from FAU's quarterback Caden Veltkamp, who threw for 343 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions, it wasn't enough to overcome FIU's dynamic performance.

First Quarter

The opening quarter saw both teams locked in an even battle as they each scored 7 points. The Owls' defense was active early on with Derrick Rogers contributing significantly by forcing a fumble that was recovered by Chris Tooley. However, FIU matched their efforts with solid offensive plays.

Second Quarter

In the second quarter, FAU managed to pull ahead slightly by scoring two touchdowns compared to FIU's one touchdown and field goal. Gemari Sands led the rushing attack for FAU with an impressive run of 26 yards being his longest carry of the game.

Third Quarter

The third quarter proved pivotal as FIU surged ahead with three unanswered touchdowns. This period highlighted some defensive lapses from FAU despite Deshaun Batiste recording one sack and multiple tackles for loss during this stretch.

Fourth Quarter

FAU attempted a comeback in the final quarter but could only manage one more touchdown through Xavier Terrell’s receiving prowess which included his longest catch of 32 yards resulting in a score. Meanwhile, Logan Lupo’s punting averaged nearly 49 yards per attempt helping maintain field position advantage albeit not enough to shift momentum back towards FAU.
