The home crowd of 48,689 witnessed an impressive offensive display by the Louisville Cardinals. The team's rushing attack was particularly effective, amassing 227 yards on the ground over 45 attempts. This relentless running game resulted in three touchdowns, including a notable longest rush touchdown of 25 yards. The passing game also contributed significantly to the victory with one touchdown pass that covered an impressive distance of 77 yards.

Defensively, the Cardinals were just as imposing. They managed to sack Virginia's quarterback four times for a loss of total yardage equaling thirty yards and recorded eight tackles for loss during the course of play. Their defensive efforts also led to two forced fumbles and one interception.

However, they were less successful on third downs converting only five out twelve attempts which is about forty-two percent conversion rate.
