First Period

The opening period saw both teams struggling to find their rhythm offensively. The Devils managed 8 shots on goal but were unable to capitalize on any opportunities. Timo Meier and Nico Hischier led the charge for New Jersey, each contributing multiple attempts but failing to break through Columbus's defense. Meanwhile, the Blue Jackets were held scoreless as well, thanks in part to solid goaltending from Jacob Markstrom.
