Legion Field Showdown: UAB Blazers Dominate Miners in American Football Clash
The University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers improved their record to an impressive 9-3 after a commanding victory over the Miners, who fell to 7-5. The final score read 28-7 in favor of the home team, showcasing the Blazers' dominance on both sides of the ball.
At Legion Field, the Blazers' offense was firing on all cylinders. The passing game was particularly effective, with a completion percentage of 60 and two touchdowns through the air; one for a notable distance of 30 yards. The quarterback's performance was reflected in an impressive passer rating of nearly 140. On the ground, UAB amassed a total of 175 rushing yards with an average gain per attempt just shy of four yards and punched in another touchdown.
Special teams also contributed significantly to UAB's success. The kickoffs traveled for a total distance of 390 yards with six ending up in the end zone and four resulting in touchbacks. In addition, field goal kickers were perfect on the day, converting both attempts with one splitting the uprights from as far out as 40 yards.
Defensively, UAB showcased their ability to disrupt plays behind the line by recording four sacks and five tackles for loss while holding their opponents to only seven points throughout four quarters. Moreover, they forced two interceptions and one fumble which they successfully recovered.
The punt return unit deserves recognition too; they returned punts for a total yardage that averaged over sixteen per return with their longest being thirty-six yards.
