UAB Blazers Dominate Savannah State Tigers at Legion Field in Season Opener
The University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers started their season with a resounding victory over the Savannah State Tigers, ending the game with a dominant scoreline of 52-0. The Blazers' record now stands at 1-0, while the Tigers fall to 0-1.
Legion Field was filled with an electric atmosphere as 27,124 fans witnessed the UAB Blazers' offense amass a total of 548 yards against the Savannah State Tigers. The home team's passing game was particularly effective, with quarterbacks combining for a completion rate of nearly 80 percent and throwing for two touchdowns. The longest pass completed stretched for an impressive 48 yards.
On the ground, the UAB rushing attack proved unstoppable as well, churning out 285 yards and crossing into the end zone four times. Their longest run was a substantial gain of 25 yards. In terms of scoring efficiency, every trip to the red zone resulted in points for UAB – seven attempts translated into seven successes.
Defensively, UAB showcased their might by sacking Savannah State's quarterback twice and intercepting two passes – one returned impressively for a touchdown covering more than half the field at 34 yards. The defense also limited penalties to just four occurrences totaling only 55 penalty yards.
