First Period

The opening period saw both teams testing each other's defenses without finding the back of the net. The Maple Leafs managed to outshoot their opponents but couldn't capitalize on their opportunities. The period ended scoreless, setting up an intriguing battle for dominance.

Second Period

Toronto's offense came alive in the second period when Auston Matthews broke through with a goal, assisted by William Nylander and Jake McCabe. This powerplay goal highlighted Toronto's ability to convert under pressure and gave them an early lead. However, San Jose responded swiftly with Alexander Wennberg leveling the score for the Sharks.

As tension mounted in the third period, neither team could gain a decisive edge until late into play when Dakota Joshua scored for Toronto after receiving an assist from Morgan Rielly. Yet again, San Jose answered back quickly as they tied it up through another well-executed play that left Dennis Hildeby unable to prevent their equalizer.

Overtime

In overtime, both teams had chances but it was ultimately Alex Nedeljkovic’s stellar goaltending that kept Toronto at bay while his teammate secured victory for San Jose with a crucial overtime goal.
